Clair de Lune

Haabesland_poster__52_AHP0531

If this picture had music, I imagine it would be something like “Clair de Lune” by Debussy.

Recently came back from an amazing trip to Lake Tahoe. On the last day we went to Fallen Leaf Lake, which we found out was the place where Kevin Costner brought Whitney Houston for safety in The Bodyguard (OK, that’s not really relevant, just some gay trivia for ya). It’s just spectacular views all over, and I can’t wait to go back. I did some photos in the water (without a protective case mind you, a.k.a. asking for trouble) but the couple photos of Alex and me were taken by our friend MJ Centeno (pictured in the last image).

The Fashionisto ++

I’ve been getting a lot of love for my shoot with Independent Men Milan model Nick Billings and 2morrow model Beate Muska, wearing designs by Jose Isaías (see editorial here)
It’s been featured on numerous important websites (click images to see)

It’s great to get such good feeback!

Photographer’s assistant

As a photographer’s assistant you’ll actually do a lot modelling. This because I need to test how the light is when starting on a new location or set. So to be as efficient as possible I’ll do this when the models are changing. Here’s a few test shots (unedited) of my assistant, for the Raidy Boer shoot, Mavi Aline Behramoglu.

Essen – A Taste Magazine

A couple of weeks ago I did an editorial for Essen Magazine. They combine the world of fashion with food and drink. They hired me to do an editorial where the idea was that there would be pictures of food in the photos, in black and white, and the clothes would have the colour of that particular food. Take a look at some of the photos underneath (you can see the whole editorial here).

Backstage on my newest editorial

I was working with the fantastic stylist Ellen Mirck again. This time while I was doing the editorial, Daniele Testi was also doing a fashion film to go along with it. In total 7 sets were built and here’s a look at how it all went down.

The post-production is coming to a close and hopefully it will be out very soon.

Vogue -Cash+Glam

A couple of weeks ago Vogue.it asked me to do a commercial trend styling shoot for the -Cash+Glam section of their website. It was an 80s inspired style with a lot of colour and pastel backgrounds. The detail and full shots is updated with a new photo every few days. You can check out at Vogue.it

WOW Editorial

During Mens Fashion Week in Milan I was working with WOW, a.k.a. White On Web. They display the works of countless designers during this period and they were fronting 7 new talented designers at the fair. In addition to doing the events and location photos I was also asked to do an editorial with styling from these designers. This editorial is now out at the WOW website, but you can also check it out here.

London. Part II

Today we had a rather cultural day going through the different vintage and food markets in London before visiting a few galleries. Take a look.
The Tate Modern museum (video installation by Tacita Dean)

National Portrait Gallery
I later discovered that all photography was forbidden so I can’t really show you the amazing works, especially at the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 (if you’re in London, go check it out)

I Sette Talenti

During Men’s Fashion Week Milan 2012, White Milan showcased 7 new promising designers. They had a presentation at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera Milano and I was there to take a few shots of the event. Here’s a few backstage photos of how it all went down:

I’ll be doing an editorial as well featuring there 7 designers as well.

Men’s Fashion Week Milan 2012

During this Men’s Fashion Week in Milan I was working with WHITE Milano. They organise the showcase of over 100 brands and designers in Via Tortona. The art-innstallations was by Erika Calesini. I was there to photograph the events, detail-shots and ‘whatever I found interesting.’ That’s exactly what I did, so here’s a look at how it all was:

The Line

Last month I did a shoot with designer Jose Isaías and stylist Amanda Hörlin, featuring model Sebastian Kuhn (Fashionmodel.it) on an amazing location in Milan. Take a look (click to enlarge):

TheOnes2Watch

I’m in the current issue of The Ones 2 Watch! Their new issue, #19, is called ‘On Location’ and features work from photographers form exiting locations all over the world. Mine is from the beautiful park in Milano, Italy, called Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli.

The Absence of Your Company

Having spent this whole week with a fever and bed rest (which is painfully anti-social), I am now very happy to be well and ready to work! Tomorrow I go back in the studio for a beauty shoot and tuesday working with TOD’s. Also, I’ve been finishing up most of my work load,
including outtakes from my shoot with Leica.

Ecliss Christmas

A few weeks back I was asked to photograph the new Christmas line displayed at Ecliss, a design store in Milan. Of course I said yes, and the store was fantastic! So many amazing decorations and details. I’ll show you some here, but if you happen to be in Milan this Christmas you should definitely stop by.

Distance

The second day of shooting with Leica S2 (see the first editorial here), was with a bit more artistic and subdued approach. What do you guys think?

All’s Not Lost

A few weeks ago, representatives from Leica contacted me and asked if I wanted to use their new camera Leica S2 for one of my future projects. I of course said yes because it’s an amazing brand (the S2 alone costs about € 20.000,- but gives amazing quality). So I did 2 editorials over 2 days, the first of which is shown underneath. It’s called “All’s Not Lost.”

Escape from Milan

A couple of weeks ago two friends visited me in Milan, and sure enough we also did a shooting. We took a train ride about 40 minutes outside of Milan, more or less just to see if there was something cool around to use for the shoot. We ended up in this huge field and under you can see some of the photos. I’m still going through all the material, but these I liked:

Storage

Sometimes, when I’m bored mostly, I’ll start going through old shoots that I’ve had. It’s fun to ‘relive’ that day but also you’ll find outtakes that you want to use after all. This is an example of this. The first 2 photos are on my website alexanderhabesland.com as part of my ‘personal‘ series:

But going through the photos from that day I saw this photo:
It wasn’t right for the original spread, but still, love the portrait.

The Woman Behind the Window

As a variation of the previous series “Restraint and Seclusion” I worked with illustration artist Achraf Amiri as his dark illustrations caught my eye. Together we made this series. What do you think?

Castings

Usually when I’m planning an editorial I’ll have a casting to make sure that we book the right model(s). You need to see how they are in real life and if they can portray the story that you’re shooting. And so I have a lot of casting photos
For example; here’s a select few of the models that we saw on the casting for VS. Magazine,
men’s editorial, this spring.

And for that particular story we chose this model, Panos, from 2morrow Model Management.

Fotografi & Bilder Nordic

I’m in the new issue of ‘Fotografi‘ with an interview and some selected work. If you’re in Norway (and understand Norwegian) make sure to get a copy.
The photography school ‘Bilder Nordic‘ in Oslo where I did my photography education, published the online version of this interview as a part of their follow-ups of talented students.

Renfang Hu – Part I

Here’s some photos I did last week with designer Renfang Hu and model Courtney B (2morrow models). The different designs were to be shot in different moods. Wednesday I’ll post the mens design shooting.
Make-up/Hair: Virginia Rizzo and assistant Nicole Krunić.
The first outfit will be a part of the Eco Fashion contest and exhibited at the Hub King’s Cross during London Design Festival.

Makemehappytoday

So May/June has been really busy – which is perfect for me. I have 2 editorials coming out next month, working with a few designers and doing as well some test jobs with new talents. Soon I’ll be able to put some of these works up. Looking forward to showing what I’ve been up to!

In the meantime, here’s another interview. Click on the image to read it

Project selection

Last week I had a shoot with 8 models, which is quite an undertaking, but it really went fantastic. Especially since I also had 2 make-up artists and 2 stylists on my team. So this week is all about doing selection for the story and contact the magazines where we want it printed. But also to make sure that each model gets individual photos for their book. In other words, it’s gonna be a ton of photos!

Here are a few of those ‘behind the scenes’. One of the make-up artists took a lot more photos + videos, so I’ll post that when I get them.

Blog and Work

These past few weeks I’ve been working more than ever, which is good. What’s even better is that a lot of it will probably be published in different magazines. The downside is that it’s most likely a few months from now since I’m shooting the new autumn and winter collections of different designers.
And until then, I can’t show you anything. But, I’m gonna get some of the behind the scenes photos and write a little bit about the different projects.
These are from a shoot I did a couple of weeks ago with stylist Ellen Mirck.
Doing a shoot of the new autumn and winter collections in Milanese heat is no picnic, but the result is amazing. Will hopefully be out by September.

VOGUE.IT – released!

Click on the photo underneath and you can see the whole fashion shoot that I did for Vogue.it! It’s now been released and with a short interview of me. Take a look. Like. Share <3

Update

I’ve been working hard this week doing 2 fashion shoots with Elite models and also having an event/exhibition at Kitsch bar, Milano. These days I’m doing post-production on the two stories and thought I’d share a couple of them. Also look out for the event photos later on.

And, why not a couple “behind the scenes” while I’m at it:

Hôtel de Crillon with Susan Tabak

When I was in Paris for Fashion Week, I got a couple of hours to photograph Susan Tabak at the fantastic
Hôtel de Crillon where she was staying. She is a noted style expert, the author of
Chic In Paris: Style Secrets & Best Addresses,
and publisher of the popular fashion and lifestyle website susantabak.com

Things are changing

So very few updates from me lately, but it’s because I’m working on a complete relaunch of both the blog and my professional website. New business cards are in print and hopefully everything will be ready and launched before christmas!
In the meantime I’m going over all the old and new photos, trying to put together a portfolio, finishing the different series & personal work. Here’s some new, old and blog photos that I may or may not put in.

Romantic + Trash

My friend Steffen and I decided to do a little photo-project. Each week we both do one photo on a subject we pick every sunday. This week it was “Romantic + Trash”

Working

I’ve been working hard this week doing some photo-shoots, hence fewer updates on the blog. Just thought I would show you a photo from a shoot I had on wednesday.
I’ll upload the rest this weekend.
Did another shoot which will come out next week.

Summer Moved On

I really got that autumn feeling in Milan today and the melancholic ‘what about summer?’ thing that you get after something’s over. Looking forward to new adventures this autumn – so bring it! (said in that “Bring it on” – cheerleader movie kind of way).
These are pictures from my vacation last summer with some of my closest friends. Miss you guys.

GONE FISHING!

So, I haven’t been able to blog for a week due to an angry photo library that wouldn’t cooperate with me! After  a lot of attempts to fix this mother f#$&=” I got it right and am back in business. Have some photos stored up so the blog will again be updated daily. Loves. Thought I’d start by showing a couple of pics of me and my roomate Steffen with our “Gone Fishing” sign, meaning a number of wonderful things. Can U guess some of it?
